LONG five years have passed since the double murder of Sagar Runi was committed by unknown assailants. Law enforcing agencies are yet to make any headway in either identifying the criminals or uncovering the mysteries associated with the murder. The journalist couple was murdered five years ago in their own house and the whole country has been demanding proper punishment for the killers. The inordinate delay has given rise to gossip and rumours. Immediately after the murder the then home minster promised that the killers would be arrested within 48 hours. Sixty months have passed without any result.
The murder of Sagar Runi will not be forgotten so easily. I hope the journalist community will not spare any effort to compel the law enforcers to locate the criminals and bring them to justice. It is regrettable that a case of double murder like that of Sagar-Runi is taking so long to be investigated. Incident of Sagar-Runi murder is a threat to free press and a black spot in the history of our country. No crime should go unpunished and the criminals behind the killing should be unmasked.
